Swarn lived and worked in Calcutta for 20 years and in Bombay for 17 years before they moved to Chandigarh in late 1990s where Swarn returned after 45 years. Travels Swarn has been globetrotting since early 1970's as he was associated from then onwards with international business. This created an interest in the study of Sikh Immigrants abroad. So, a hobby has developed, expensive one, but very rewarding and exciting. Swarn is now an Independent Researcher of Sikh Diaspora with focus on non-English speaking countries. His job with ICI involved stints as Export Manager which involved travel overseas. He is on his 24th passport and has so far visited 80. Post retirement, he started travelling to study Sikh Migration to non- English-speaking countries about which there was only limited information available and thereby completing the global Sikh migration map. He has written 3 books on the subject: SIKHS IN LATIN AMERICA (8 Countries), SIKHS IN ASIA PACIFIC (11countries), SIKHS IN CONTINENTAL EUROPE (17 countries). Health permitting (87 yrs age), Swarn has two projects covering 'Sikhs in West & Central Asia and Africa' and 'Sikhs in India outside Punjab'.

Since 2018, Swarn and Livleen have been attending Seniors Courses UT OLLI - The University of Texas at Austin, covering Fall and Spring Semesters. (See https://olli.utexas.edu).

UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS - UTOLLI

The University of Texas at Austin Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (UT OLLI) is where curious adults can enjoy classes in a relaxed community of friends, among leading scholars and experts, who share a fascination with exploring new areas of knowledge and traditional disciplines.

Members come from all walks of life and bring a lifetime of experiences to the classroom. Programming is uniquely developed and driven by member interests as a way to enhance collaboration and program engagement. There are seminars and lectures - seminars cover one subject over six weeks.

It's a unique program primarily for Seniors covering a variety of subjects from politics, space, performing arts, US armed forces, USA's foreign policy, nature and earth's climate, outstanding women, famous musicians, Broadway, World Wars, criminal justice system, modern life through ancient lens, Texas politics, Integrative biology etc.etc.

One of the courses asked Swarn to write about his background (turban attracts attention) for their semester-end newsletter, which is being copied here.
