1960s and 70s - Some Observations

1.Singapore, I saw in 1966 was no different from Bombay. Mandarin Hotel on Orchard Road was like the Taj Hotel of Bombay with no high-rise tower building. Singapore Sling at Raffles was the drink to have.
2. Beirut was rich Arab's playground. A city so located that one could sky from the mountain straight into the sea. Casino- du - Liban, was as exotic as Paris nightclubs where even animals were brought onto the stage besides beautiful women.
3. In Egypt for the light show of the Pyramids at night in winter, fire warmers, and blankets were supplied.
4. Teheran under the Shah' regime had beautiful night clubs and beautiful women
5. Baghdad had fabulous bazaars.
6. The famous flight was Pan Am 001 and 002, which went around the world one clockwise and the other anticlockwise.
7. In 1958, no plane could fly from Europe to New York without a stop for refuelling at say Gander - turbo propeller planes.
8. Most Australians had been to Bombay (for some Colombo) as travel was mostly by ship. Qantas, because of long flights had male stewards.
9. Tastiest Indian meal cooked by Japanese wife of my ICI Scottish colleague in Seoul, Korea.
